In a proactive effort to safeguard public health, the Ministry of Health in collaboration with Ginkgo Bioworks LLC, will on 16 September 2024 introduce a pathogen (disease causing micro-organisms) monitoring program in certain ports of entry. Ginkgo Bioworks LLC is an American company that specialises in bio-surveillance, biosecurity and public health capacity building. Botswana Bureau of Standards (BOBS) through the Standards Act of 1995 is mandated with ensuring that where a compulsory standard has been declared in respect to a product, any person who manufactures, produces, processes, treats, sells or otherwise deals with the product must comply with the requirements as declared in the standard. The Standards (Compulsory Standards) Regulations (SCSR) of 2023 also requires that all manufacturers of regulated products be registered with Botswana Bureau of Standards (BOBS) to ensure compliance to the relevant compulsory Standard before placement on the market....Read
